REVIEW:
Avenue X marks the spot. In late 2022, Lucia Pizza of Avenue X opened its doors and was welcomed to the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood with open arms and mouths. Although the slice shop is new, the makers and the bakers clearly know there way around a pizza. Everything from the carefully sourced flour through the grated pecorino finishing touch works together resulting in one of the best slices in New York City. Aesthetically, Lucia Pizza pays homage to great pizzerias like NY Pizza Suprema that have defined the quintessential New York street slice, and attempts to elevate it to a level beyond by increasing the fermentation time of the dough and adding post oven garnishes. In my experience, there is no level higher than the best but I couldn’t help but be won over with each bite of my Lucia’s thin-yet-sturdy slice. The fluffy and crisp outer edge surrounded the ideal sauce to cheese ratio making it clear that this pizzeria cares about their product. I hope that never changes and there will be a Lucia Pizza of my neighborhood before long.
