REVIEW:
Kings County King. Whether you call it “L&B” or “Spumoni Gardens,” you’re talking about one of Brooklyn’s all-time great Sicilian slices. And now, as of 2025, this borough legend has officially gone bi-borough—well, at least bi-neighborhood. After more than 80 years serving up tomato-topped squares in Bensonhurst, the original L&B has opened a second spot in DUMBO, right in the heart of Brooklyn’s Pizza Row. Surrounded by heavy hitters like Grimaldi’s, Juliana's, and Ignazio’s, most newcomers might crumble under the crust pressure. But L&B isn’t just another pizzeria—it’s a piece of Brooklyn history older than all of them combined. Unlike its timeworn Bensonhurst sibling, the new DUMBO digs are sleek, modern, and powered by an impressive wall of 30 gas deck ovens. You can grab a slice to go, but I recommend sitting down in the spacious dining room and ordering a full tray of their Old Fashioned Famous Sicilian Pizza. Choose between classic red, creamy vodka sauce, or go for the DUMBO special and get half-and-half. Each bite delivers the signature L&B balance: a generous layer of tangy tomato sauce, gooey low-moisture mozzarella, and a touch of parmigiano reggiano atop that thick-yet-airy, springy crust. It’s hearty but somehow still light—a true Sicilian paradox. Bonus: the leftovers reheat almost as beautifully as they bake. And just when you think you’re done, remember where you are—Spumoni Gardens. Finish with a cup (or two) of the namesake frozen treat and you’ll understand why this family-run icon has been the king of Kings County for nearly a century.
