REVIEW:
Here for “The Pizza.” Though Ignazio’s may be located in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge, its recipe, longevity and its electric-powered ovens have earned their way out of the shadow of neighboring coal-fired institutions of Grimaldi’s and Juliana. This family-friendly offers an alternative to the long lines without sacrificing flavor. It is easy to know what to get at Ignazio’s because it’s staring at you from atop the menu: order “The Pizza.” Simply bread, sauce and cheese is anything but simple at Ignazio’s. The crust is sturdy-yet-chewy, the generous amount of plum tomato sauce is enhanced with Italian herbs and the cheese combination of fresh mozzarella and pecorino melts together into the epitome of a New York style pizza pie. Mix it up with a Siciliana to see just how an ideal square is supposed to be. It is crisp, filling and yet light providing the perfect foundation for the sauce, cheese and toppings. Ignazio’s is old school delicious and old school “cash only.” I can’t wait to go back.
