REVIEW:
Pizza that is second to naan. The East Village’s Onion Tree Pizza Co. finally has an answer to the age old question, “should we have pizza or Indian food tonight?” Their solution is, “both!” Imagine spicy perfectly cooked chicken tikka masala on authentic hand-sculpted Neapolitan crust. Now, thanks to Onion Tree Pizza Co., you don’t have to imagine it anymore! You can get it and a Saag Paneer pie on a thicker, higher hydration Roman style flatbread on the side. As a fan of Indian cuisine, this fusion with pizza delighted me culinarily and geographically to be so lucky to live in a place where such a combination could occur. Like me, the Indian chefs at Onion Tree clearly have an adoration of pizza. They have gone so far as to study the traditional Italian preparation including sourcing a flour blend to yield the ideal crust consistency to complement the high quality Indian-infused ingredients. Pair your pies with an Indian beer or anything else from the full bar and you have a date-worthy meal in a surprisingly spacious dining area. Although this caliber of food does come at a premium, as Indian restaurants tend to, it is hard to put a price on such a unique eating experience. I look forward to my next visit to Onion Tree Pizza Co.
