DAY 12: OCTOBER 12th, 2023

LOCATION: Scarr's Pizza (35 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002)

GUEST(S): Shaun Farrugia, Michael Serpe

ORDER: 1 slice of cheese, 1/2 slice of pepperoni, 1/3 slice of Sicilian pepperoni, 1/3 slice of hotboi (Sauce, cheese, beef pepperoni, jalapenos, Mike's Extra Hot Honey)

REVIEW:

Since my last visit to Scarr’s, the retro classic NY pizzeria has moved across the street to a bigger space. It’s still not big enough to handle the demand for one of the top slices in the city. Expect massive lines - particularly around meal times - and hope for good weather because, if you want a slice, you are waiting in it. Also, the moment you get it, get out! You may find a spot on one of the two benches out front if you are lucky but likely you will be eating your New York street slices on the streets of New York. Unless you want to dine in! Scarr’s offers a no frills sit-down pizza parlor option in the back serving full size pies, drinks, and more. There are also laminated plastic booths and a couple of arcade games to complete the throw-back vibe. Most importantly, the pizza is reliably tasty, well constructed, and baked to perfection. The spots on the melted mozzarella, the dark patches on the thick outer edge, and the golden brown underside indicate an even bake as well as guarantee a fulfilling crunch with each bite. I recommend having someone from your party wait in line and order some slices that can serve as appetizers for the pie you order in the back. The more Scarr’s Pizza, the better!
