REVIEW:
A classic throwback. Residents in both the East Village and Hell's Kitchen need only look for the Baker's Pizza red neon slice shaped sign to locate the newest pizzeria in the neighborhood. Despite its age, this new grab-and-go slice joint comes with an old, familiar feel. Consistent with the minimalist neon sign out front, inside you'll find a couple of tables, a smattering of chairs, a pizza themed wall hanging or two, and a glass case displaying a few pizzas. Other than that, it's just the oven that cooks the pizza and a person that tends said oven. I guess he is technically a "baker" but this is just a coincidence. The owner is named Jordan Baker. Baker teamed up with pizza chef Jamie Cacace to create a classic New York City pizzeria with modern day recipes. Baker's Pizza bakes huge, by-the-slice offerings in the tradition of the quintessential New York street slice with signature concoctions of high quality ingredients updated for the times. Time-trusted premium toppings such as basil, fresh mozzarella, and extra virgin olive oil are mixed and matched with unique blends of trendy toppings such as herbed ricotta, truffle oil and brussels sprouts. And it works! Since the toppings are distributed all the way to the edge, each bite is packed with flavor. I recommend getting the freshest one possible. Don't come here expecting a romantic date place or even a bathroom, come to Baker's Pizza for the pizza...and probably to see me enjoying it!
