Day 6, 2015: Bar Catalina (Hell's Kitchen, NYC)

DAY 6: OCTOBER 6th, 2015

LOCATION: Bar Catalina (#675A Ninth Ave., Hell's Kitchen, NYC)

GUEST(S): Justin Anderson, Robin Rothman

ORDER: 1 slice of a Margherita, 1 slice of a Prosciutto and Sausage, 1 slice of a Mushroom Truffle

REVIEW:
Chat, chug and chew. Despite the first word of its name, Bar Catalina offers more than a chic place to meet a friend for a drink. This Hell's Kitchen bar has a wood-fired brick oven to pair Mediterranean influenced appetizers, small plates, and tasty pizza with specialty cocktails, fine wine and choice brews. The pizzas are personal sized but feature generous portions of gourmet toppings atop Greco-Roman crisp wood-fired crusts. Purists should stick to the Margherita for a more traditional taste. Loaded with copious amounts of melted fresh mozzarella cheese, rich tomato sauce, basil leaves and an olive oil drizzle, Bar Catalina's Margherita is much more than a typical cheese pizza. Since it is a Pizza Bar, pair it with a Margarita for fun on multiple levels. Topping lovers may prefer the flavorful signature pies like the Prosciutto and Sausage which uses cherry peppers, tomato sauce and loads of meat to give a creative salsa-esque aftertaste to each bite. Bar Catalina is open late and provides a very social atmosphere.  I look forward to returning.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Justin Anderson and Robin Rothman
1. Justin Anderson is more than the-next-greatest-improviser.  He's also one of the fastest distance runners I know.  He ran a half marathon in under an hour and 21 minutes automatically qualifying him for the NYC marathon based on time!  I think that puts him in the "elite" running class. It also makes him skinny.  He ran 10 miles before we ate.  I walked three blocks.
2. Robin Rothman is performing in a Live Band Karaoke show to benefit Gilda's Club this Friday at the Magnet Theater.  It's a good cause and trust me, Robin's worth it!

Rehearsal for Apt 33
3.  I arrived to pizza after a rehearsal for Apt. 33. It's a show featuring frequent pizza companions Alan Fessenden and Louie Pearlman and I play a Canadian, eh. The show is at 8:30pm on Monday (Columbus Day) so reserve your tickets now.
