LOCATION: High Heat (154 Bleecker St., NYC)
GUEST: Justin Moran, Molly Moran, Andrew Butterworth, Robin Rothman
REVIEW:
Craft beer and crafty pizza! Waldy Malouf, owner of Waldy's Wood-fired Pizza & Penne, has brought his specialized pizza style to this self-serve Bleecker Street outpost. Named after the steep temperatures in the gas-powered stone-lined ovens, High Heat offers crispy elliptical pies with ambitious topping choices. For traditional pizza lovers like me, definitely stick with the Margherita. The creamy fresh mozzarella cheese, juicy cherry tomatoes and freshly cut basil add texture and flavor to the tangy tomato sauce and seven cheese blend that comes standard on most pies. Want breakfast for dinner? Try the Bacon, Egg & Sausage pie. Speaking of meat, most of the people around us came to High Heat for the burgers. No matter what you order, wash it down with a tough-to-pour growler of craft beer
RATING:
12.5/18 = .694 * 5 = 3.47
MISCELLANEOUS:
1. Justin and Molly know how to camp! Not only can they keep their fellow campers alive overnight but be prepared to wake up to an amazing breakfast cooked over an open flame!
2. I loved the inspirational poster in the wall in the bathroom. If this poster has anything to do with Waldy Malouf's (the owner of High Heat) life view, then I think we'd get along very well. To me, pizza month is the (albeit odd) passion I have that connects me with good food, family, and friends.
