Day 20, 2012: Pete Zaaz (Prospect Heights, BK)

DAY 20, OCTOBER 20th, 2012

LOCATION: Pete Zaaz (766 Classon Ave, Brooklyn)

ORDER: 2 slices of Baked Potato, 1 slice of Buffalo Chicken, 1 slice of Brooklyn

GUEST: Christopher Simpson, Kaitlin Fontana, Robin Rothman

REVIEW:
A pie good enough to forgive the pun.  I, of course, love puns so couldn't wait to take a bite of a Pete Zaaz pie.  Afterward, I couldn't wait to take a whole lot more.  Loaded with white cheddar, bacon, green onion and creme fraiche (fancy sour cream), the top selling Baked Potato pie is the most creative signature pie on the menu.  As it cooks, the dough solidifies in the gas powered deck oven creating a sturdy outer edge and underside that easily bears the weight of the non-traditional toppings.  The crispy pieces of pre-cooked thinly sliced bacon are plentiful and packed with flavor balancing out the clumps of potato in both texture and taste.  A 14" standard size pie will definitely feed two so split the bring a friend and split the cost.  The unique topping combinations alone are reason enough to get a Pete Zaaz pizza.

MISCELLANEOUS:
1. Chris Simpson walks with a cane because he rolled over his ankle but some people think he is recovering from a gun shot.
2. Kaitlin Fontana is from Calgary, Canada and has met Kevin MacDonald from the Kids in the Hall multiple times.  She also recognizes most any Canadian pop culture reference even naming her two person sketch team (with Louie Pearlman) Buckshot & Benny after a well known Calgary based kids show.
3. All of us love the band Great Big Sea.
