REVIEW:
A cut above. With the opening of Slicehaus, the West Village now boasts another destination for a truly top-tier slice. These extra-large New York–Neapolitan hybrids emerge from high-heat electric ovens with a crisp, oven-kissed underside and a puffy, blistered cornicione. The balance of textures alone is impressive, but add in the quality toppings — melted mozzarella, savory tomato sauce, and post-oven finishes of Parmigiano Reggiano, basil, and olive oil — and you’ve got something special. The similarity to L’Industrie is no accident. Co-owner and master pizzaiolo Agostino Cangiano honed his craft at that West Village institution before opening Slicehaus just a few blocks away. It’s clear he brought the lessons — and the standards — with him. With its seat-and-public-facilities-challenged cozy dining area, it is clear that pizza is the main attraction here.. Even the square Sicilian slices are treated with respect — fermented for 48 hours, yielding a thick yet airy crust that crunches satisfyingly with every bite. Word is already spreading, so expect a line soon. As for me, I’d write more… but I’m already halfway back to grab another slice at Slicehaus.
