DAY 7: OCTOBER 7th, 2024

LOCATION: Uno Pizzeria & Grill (432 Columbus Ave, New York, NY 10024)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Matt Shafeek, Ange DeManti

ORDER: 1 slice of deep dish Tomatoes & Cheese, 1 slice of deep dish Peppers and Onions, 2 slices of Chicago Thin crust with sausage, 1 slice of Chicago Thin crust with black olives

REVIEW:
The Original Pizzeria Uno on Chicago’s Wabash Street introduced deep dish pizza to the world in 1943. Since then, more than 130 Uno Pizzeria & Grill locations have served as ambassadors of this creation across the country and the world. That said, there is more on the menu than just deep dish pizza. There are even more pizza options on it, namely, Chicago thin crust pizza. So whether you want chicken wings, sandwiches, salads, quesadillas, or drinks to pair with your pizza, Uno’s has you covered. But definitely get the pizza. Although the styles couldn’t be more different, I recommend getting both the thick and thin! Underorder on the deep-dish as the heaping amounts of melted mozzarella (makes for great cheese pulls) and chunky tomato sauce on the towering crisp fried pie crust are much more filling than a typical New York slice.  On the other extreme, overorder on the thin. One extra hungry adult can eat an entire extra large by themselves. This cracker thin style cut into nacho-sized squares (“party cut” or “tavern cut”) are a great vehicle for getting mozzarella and assorted toppings - not unlike nachos - into your welcoming mouth. Get a salty topping like sausage or black olives and ask for extra sauce cooked “well done.” That’s exactly what I intend to order on my next visit to Uno Pizzeria & Grill.
