Day 13, 2021: ZuriLee (Flatbush, Brooklyn)

DAY 13: OCTOBER 13th, 2021

LOCATION: ZuriLee (755 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11226)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Scott Wiener, John Ross

ORDER: 2 slices of ZuriLee (smoked gouda, havarti, Vermont white cheddar), 2 slices of Da Jerk Chicken (seasoned chicken, mozzarella, fresh corn), 2 slices of Oxtail (oxtail, mozarella, grana padano)

REVIEW:
Caribbean fare with Italian flair. Located in Flatbush, Brooklyn, ZuriLee (pronounced zer 'rai lē) is a restaurant that creatively manages to fuse the Islands and Italy by putting high quality Caribbean food on wood-fired pizza dough. The results are as delicious as you might expect. Take for instance, the Da Jerk Chicken pie which comes loaded with so much spicy jerk chicken, you have to pick the slice up carefully to avoid dropping any of the large tasty chicken chunks on your lap.  The expertly cooked wood-fired crust does its best to support the flavorful payload but I recommend two hands or even a knife and fork. One of the exquisite staples of any Caribbean restaurant is the oxtail and, sure enough, there it is on the pizza menu at ZuriLee.  Even at “market price” (which was $40) for a personal sized pie, the oxtail pizza is worth it. Not just because the personal size is rather large but because at ZuriLee, they don’t skimp. The mouthwatering shredded oxtail topping is heaped from edge to edge. Share it with a friend or two and leave with a full stomach and a smile on your face. The namesake, the ZuriLee pizza, aesthetically looks like a traditional cheese pizza but one bite into the smoked gouda, havarti and white cheddar combo and your taste buds will be pleasantly surprised. With a full bar, plenty of seating indoors and a patio out back, ZuriLee caters to almost any gathering. Expect your gathering to be a unique pizza experience unlike any other.
