DAY 13: OCTOBER 13th, 2020

LOCATION: Anna Marie's Italian Cuisine (10170 W Tropicana Ave #144, Las Vegas, NV 89147)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman

ORDER: 2.5 slices of cheese

REVIEW:
Restaurant but also pizzeria. Based on the name and menu, Anna Marie's Italian Cuisine offers so much more than just pizza that one might not expect the pizza to be so darn good. But it is. At any other time, Anna Marie's would be an idyllic romantic dating spot right out of the Billy Joel song "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant." But these are not any other times. This family establishment has confronted the challenges of inside dining presented by the pandemic by countering with carryout options. Tried and true Italian recipes are good no matter where you eat them.  Currently they are running a take-out deal with an 18" extra large pizza and an order of chicken wings for $21. This isn't just an ordinary pizza though. Imagine the perfect breadstick with its crisp outside and chewy interior encircling the entire pie. Now add a tangy red sauce and cover it with generous amounts of mozzarella cheese. The result is a hybrid of a classic Italian dish and a New York street slice.  It's as filling as it is delicious. Even the chicken wings, which we ordered "Italian" style were breaded and fried like your favorite chicken parm. They were even served with a side of Marinara, or "gravy" as they refer to it in Italian households. I look forward to a time when I can dine-in and feast on even the non-pizza offerings. In the meantime, I look forward to eating a lot more pizza at Anne Marie's Italian Cuisine.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Sean & Robin

1. I took Robin Rothman on a lunch date for pizza and ice cream.  It was just like the before-times except more masks and hand sanitizer.

Ice Cream chaser

2. It was $2.50 scoop Tuesday at Handel's so we chased our pizza lunch with some ice cream.  It melted in the Vegas heat on our walk back to my in-laws' house.

Lily's home-made mint chocolate chip

3. Fortunately, we more ice cream awaiting us.  My mother-in-law's home-made mint chocolate chip is amazing.

Nightshade
4. Robin performed in a show the moment we returned.  It was a virtual musical improv show with her improv team Nightshade.  You can see her just about every Tuesday night for free at the Magnet Theater's virtual theater (https://www.twitch.tv/themagnettheater/).
