GUEST(S): Jun Naito, Louie Pearlman, Mary Regan
ORDER: 2 slices of clam (lemon, garlic, pickled chili, parsley), 2 slices of Margherita (housemade mozzarella, bianco dinapoli tomatoes, basil), 1 slice of Broccoli Rabe (stracciatella, pine nuts, pecorino toscano), 1 slice of Funghi (lion's mane & oyster mushrooms, fontina, apple)
REVIEW:
Fresh, local, creative. Though Rosemary's Pizza might sound like a reference to the 1968 cult classic Rosemary's Baby, I assure you, it is not. That said, Carlos Suarez named the pizzeria after his mother which, I suppose, makes him Rosemary's baby but the parallels end there. Located where Perry Street meets Greenwich Avenue, the corner entrance warmly welcomes West Villagers into its rustic open dining area and serves them a good meal. Like the original Rosemary's, the sister restaurant down the street, expect a friendly waitstaff and the freshest ingredients available. Chef Wade Moises took some liberties with the menu creating unique topping combinations that look like works of art but taste like delicious pizza. Using a canvas of wood-fired golden brown crust, signature pies combine conventional toppings like tomatoes and cheese with less conventional ones like pine nuts and apples for flavors like no other. Even the condiments - which are presented in four glass bottles you might find in a science lab - provide a welcome new take on the typical parmesan and crushed red pepper. All the ingredients are locally sourced, including the beer. I recommend bringing a date, sharing a salad, ordering two separate signature pies, and pairing them with your preferred beverage. If it leads to children, name one of your babies "Rosemary" and the other "Pizza."
