Day 3, 2013: Mozza (Hollywood, CA)

DAY 3: OCTOBER 3rd, 2013

LOCATION: Pizzeria Mozza (641 N. Highland Ave, Hollywood, CA)

ORDER: 3 slices of personal Margherita, 2 slices of Fennel sausage, panna and red onions & scallions

GUEST(S): Jay Hoskins, Jen Sanders, Rachel Axelrod, Caroline Ficksman, Desireé Nash, Robin Rothman

REVIEW:
A trendy LA take on gourmet Neopolitan pizza, this date-worthy pizzeria nearly lives up to the hype.  Located just around the corner from its sister restaurant, Osteria Mozza, the Pizzeria Mozza has an identity all its own.  With multiple dining areas, patrons can eat amongst the vast wine collection or in plain sight of the pizziolas working the dough.  Mozza's menu combines traditional flavors with uniquely Californian topping combinations to satisfy just about any palette. All pies are cooked in an almond wood-burning oven and topped with high quality local-when-possible ingredients.  The crisp crust which sports a golden brown outer-rim, is tougher than the standard Italian style, but serves as a solid foundation for the plentiful toppings.  These gourmet pies don't come cheap, and when combined with the nearly required $10 cost of valet parking, a meal at Mozza might set a new bar for pizza cost before it sets one for pizza taste.
