DAY 19: OCTOBER 19th, 2008
LOCATION: Peaquod's (Webster Ave. and Clybourn Ave., Chicago)
ORDER: 2 slice pepperoni, half a slice of spinach
GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Karisa Bruin, Scott Morehead, Kristen Studard, Amy Letcher
PIZZA REVIEW:
Carmelized crust king of Chicago. Peaquod's pan pizza finds the happy-medium between baked deep dish pizza pie crustiness and charred brick oven chewiness. The blackened outer edge of a carmelized Peaquod's pie is their signature. On top of that expect to find plenty of flavor-packed tomato sauce and more-than-enough mozzarella cheese. They are served directly out of the pan which helps maintain the internal heat and architectural integrity of each slice. My guests claim the leftovers are even better the next day as they are fresh from the oven.. Peaquod's, may be just reason enough for me to return to Chicago just to validate that high claim.
MISC.:
1. Between the six of us, we ordered three pies; one large, one medium, and one small. This was about twice as much as six hungry adults could eat.
2. The Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago is free! There was a hippo there with cuts and scrapes all over it. According to the zoo keeper, hippos "like it rough."
