REVIEW:
Pizza on the 19th Hole. Whether you’re celebrating birdies or recovering from bogeys, The National Tavern at Reynolds Lake Oconee is the perfect place to end a round. Nestled just beyond the 18th green of the National Course, this welcoming spot pairs sweeping golf views with some surprisingly solid pizza. The dough is baked in an electric oven, but the results are championship caliber. Big, bubbly, and made with high-quality ingredients, these pies are large enough that two should easily feed a hungry foursome. The menu features both classic and creative combinations — I say try one of each. While I’m always happy to dig into a traditional, sauce-forward pie like their Margherita, my favorite was the Date Night Pizza topped with dates, whipped goat cheese, peppery arugula, bacon and hot honey that added a bright finish to every bite. Access might be limited since The National Tavern sits inside a gated community, but if you’re lucky enough to find yourself on the course, it’s well worth sticking around for the 19th hole. This pizza might just be your best shot of the day.
