REVIEW:
Hitting the ground running. With their name not yet posted on the sign out front, Tomato & Pesto Pizzeria may be new, but the guy in the kitchen is not. He has been pleasing pizza-loving Rego Park, Queens residents for years at the same address, no less. Located where the LIE meets Queens Boulevard, this slice joint promises to cater to coffee shop needs in the morning as well as all day pizza needs. My pizza needs were met with a fresh cheese pie out of the gas powered ovens. The excess oil from the creamy low moisture mozzarella cheese can be drained by folding the extra large quintessential New York street slices then angling it downward. Just beware the temperature of the cheese and the well-layered savory tomato sauce beneath it. I nearly burned the roof of my mouth on the first bite, but when a slice is as good as the ones Tomato & Pesto is serving, it's hard to wait.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Lorina and Katey |
1. Lorina Ladrillono's daughter Katey named her three favorite singers: Madonna, Katy Perry, and Robin (Rothman). Robin played guitar and sang at two of her five birthdays. Katey's only five years old and knows EXACTLY how to endear herself to me (and Robin) forever.
