Day 4c, 2013: Tomato Pie (Silver Lake, CA)

DAY 4c: OCTOBER 4th, 2013

LOCATION: Tomato Pie (2457 Hyperion Ave, Silver Lake, CA)

ORDER: 1/2 Grandma slice, 1/2 tomato pie

GUEST(S): Benjamin Oren, Matt Pack, Robin Rothman

REVIEW:
California charm meets an Italian tradition.  Nestled at the foot of a hill at the intersection of Hyperion Ave and Tracy St. there is a retro-hip pizzeria called Tomato Pie .  The menu includes signature slices that infuse fresh ingredients like artichoke and zucchini on thin and chewy flat bread presented in a deliciously attractive display shelf.  You have your choice of sitting in a booth, at the counter watching the chefs work, or out back in the outdoor seating area. While the uniquely California style slices are ambitious and fun, they pale in comparison to the more traditional Grandma slice and Tomato Pie.  Both combine rich cooked tomato sauces with several herbs and spices to ensure a mouthwatering flavor with every bite.

Parking in the lot is free while supplies last but with pizza this good, I would expect you may have to get creative during rush times.

MISCELLANEOUS:

1. Los Angeles is a county, a city, and a town. The county of Los Angeles extends all the way to Long Beach.  The city includes the town of Los Angeles and most of the surrounding area, except Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, and random other parts.  This is why gas prices and addresses vary so much within the vicinity.  Thanks, Matt Pack and Ben Oren for this info.

2. Robin and I went to In-and-Out Burger.  We agree it's not the best food but amongst other fast food joints is easily the best in both food and cost.
