Day 25, 2013: DeFazio's Wood-fired Pizzeria (Troy, NY)

DAY 25: OCTOBER 25th, 2013

LOCATION: DeFazio's Wood-fired Pizzeria (266 4th St, Troy, NY)

ORDER: 3 slice of Fresh Mozzarella pie with Hot Sausage and Mushroom

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman

REVIEW:
Made with pride...and good ingredients.  Located in Troy, New York adjacent to the Homemade Sausage and Sauce specialty store by the same name, DeFazio's is a quaint family-owned six table pizzeria that aims to please.  DeFazio's offers customers the choice between two different size pies, five unique styles of crust and countless combinations of fresh ingredients ranging from goat cheese to pineapple.  Considering the proximity and affiliation with the specialty store, I recommend a pie with sausage and sauce.  Despite the generous portions, the firm wood-fired brick oven crust will more than support the weight of even the bubble-displaced toppings.  I'm sure if you let it sit, the center would be prone to some sogginess so eat it promptly.  The sturdiness of the crust and the steady stream of folks making phone orders indicates that DeFazio's pizza is great delivered as well.  Of course, if you get it delivered, you'll miss the friendly voice of a DeFazio checking in to see how you liked your reasonably price food.  If I'm ever in the area again, I plan to drop back into DeFazio's.

MISCELLANEOUS:

1.  Robin Rothman and I have a new favorite apple.  It's called a Honeycrisp and it's sweet but not too sweet, light yet substantial, and crisp without hurting your teeth.  According to the gal selling them, they're grown in upstate New York.
2. Going to DeFazio's was a recommendation of the father of the bride whose wedding brought us upstate.  Good call, Mr. Rooney!
3. DeFazio's is such a family business, even the webmaster for the website has the same last name.  Great job, Zane!
