GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Marni Berkowitz, Dan Berkowitz, Mikey

REVIEW:
Pie-dyllic! Whether you call it a “tomato pie” or a “pizza with the cheese under the sauce,” De Lorenzo’s Tomato Pies has been perfecting the art form since 1936. Three generations and three storefronts later, this New Jersey institution has spawned a new location in Yardley, Pennsylvania — a new pilgrimage site for anyone attempting to taste their way through the pantheon of pizza greatness. The De Lorenzo family emigrated from Southern Italy in the early 20th century, bringing with them recipes, techniques, and an authentically secret “secret sauce.” Nearly a century later, that sauce remains the star — bright, bold, and unapologetically tomato-forward. Be sure to check the hours and expect a line out the door — because everyone who’s ever eaten here is either planning their return trip or already waiting for a table. You can BYOB or sip on some birch beer, but whatever you do, save plenty of room for the main event: the hand-sliced tomato pies. My go-to order is the sausage with extra tomato. The combination of their signature crushed tomato sauce, locally sourced sausage, and low-moisture mozzarella (custom-made for their gas-powered deck ovens) would already make for a memorable pizza — but then comes the crust. Thin yet sturdy, crisp yet chewy, simple yet sublime. Words can only go so far. Much like the Grand Canyon, no photo or description truly does it justice. You have to experience it. So clear your calendar, grab a bottle, and go see for yourself why De Lorenzo’s Tomato Pies isn’t just a living legend — it’s a slice of pizza history.

MISCELLANEOUS:
1. Robin Rothman and I took the train from New York's Penn Station to Trenton and a Lyft from the train station to the pizza place. We both used our hot spots on the train to work and blog the entire way!

2. Marni Berkowitz is a wonderful human beaming with positivity. Anyone who knows her knows that the eider duck is her spirit animal.

3. Dan Berkowitz wonders why his wonderful dog chooses to bite him more than the rest of his family.

4. Mikey recently had a Bar Mitzvah which I was lucky enough to attend. He sang through the whole thing - the kid's got talent.
