Day 31, 2024: Mediterraneo Pizza (Washington Heights, NYC)

exterior

DAY 31: OCTOBER 31st, 2024

LOCATION: Mediterraneo Pizza (1593 St Nicholas Ave, New York, NY 10040)

GUEST(S): Erik Tanouye, Ange DeManti, Jon Monje

ORDER: 1 slice of cheese (mozzarella, tomato sauce), 1 slice of Margherita (fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, basil), 1 slice of Zaatar Pie (Thyme, herbs, olive oil)

REVIEW:
Pizza pie for the family. Located right by the 191st street (1) subway stop in Washington Heights, Manhattan, Mediterraneo Pizza is a quick and convenient spot to grab a pie on your way back home. Sure, they offer delivery and there are a few seats if you want to dine in but the cozy bathroom-less dining area might limit your stay.  Pizzas are prepped in a familiar New York style but with a Mediterranean twist. Take, for instance, the cheeseless Zaatar pie which uses the middle eastern spice along with several others for a pie like no other. All the pizzas are baked swiftly on mesh pans in a gas-powered oven I recommend sticking with the very reasonably priced basics and ordering a cheese or the crowd-pleasing pepperoni “to go.” When you get home, reheat it in your oven and enjoy. Anyone who lives or works in Washington Heights might already consider Mediterraneo a local family favorite.

1. It was the last day of Pizza Month 2024 so I was thrilled that I was able to meet up with my improv, former roommate and college buddy Erik Tanouye who is lucky enough to have an October birthday. I was also able to meet up with the two people that guested with me the most this past month: Jon Monje and Ange DeManti.

Sean and Erik
2. After pizza Erik Tanouye took the leftover pizza in a pizza "to go" bag which made him sort of resemble a Pizza delivery man. Since it is Halloween, people assumed, since I was dressed as a pizza slice, that we had planned our costumes together and that Erik was a delivery man and I was an escaped slice.

3. While we were noticing couple costumes, it came to our attention that outsiders might think that Ange DeManti and I may have coordinated our costumes since I was dressed as "Pizza" and she wore her "Pizza Slut" shirt.
Voted early in costume
4. I voted dressed up like a pizza slice.
