DAY 18: OCTOBER 18th, 2020

LOCATION: Brooklyn's Best Pizza and Pasta (5270 S Fort Apache Rd #320, Las Vegas, NV 89148)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman

ORDER: 1 slices of grandma (Thin square deep dish with sweet plum tomatoes, garlic and basil sauce, and Mozzarella), 2 slices of grandma with pepperoni

REVIEW:
Good old fashioned pizza. Brooklyn's Best Pizza and Pasta in Las Vegas is serving up some of the best pizza in the city - any city.  With a name that includes a borough of the Big Apple, Brooklyn's Best Pizza and Pasta will inevitably draw comparisons to New York City and rightly so.  It's very similar to pizza served in New York pizzerias and if the Jets and Mets clad delivery driver's accent is any indicator, this place is the real deal.  Beyond geography, what sets the "best" apart from the rest is ancestry.  Pizzeria owners often credit their Italian grandmother's recipes as their literal secret sauce.  Look no further than the grandma pie which, as a style, was not well-known until the early 2000's but has been cooked in Southern Italian kitchens for hundreds of years and in New York pizzerias for over a century. Brooklyn's Best Pizza and Pasta serves a grandma pizza on par with the best. It's square shape, sturdy-yet-light, crisp-yet-chewy crust supports a generous amount of mozzarella cheese, loaded with a thick tomato sauce, garlic and basil. Offset the sweetness of the plum tomatoes and basil with their trademark pepperonis which are as large as they are spicy.  One pie is more than enough for four hungry adults.  If by some stroke of luck you can't finish it, don't worry, some argue this style reheats even better than the original bake. In non-pandemic times, the indoor dining area allows patrons to eat beneath a giant mural of the Brooklyn Bridge. I look forward to going back for that, but until then, I've got Brooklyn's Best Pizza and Pasta on speed-dial.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Robin and Sean
1. Robin and I got the pizza for delivery and ate on the back patio to keep at a distance from her parents while we finish our 14 day quarantine following our RV adventure to Yellowstone.

Before haircut
2. Robin got a new set of electric clippers and I was her first client. Here is my "Before" look which my mom thinks resembles Slingblade.

After
3. I was pleased with the haircut Robin gave me. It's a lot lighter now both by weight and color. I think I am a lot grayer now than I was when I began pizza month in 2002.
