GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Elana Fishbein
ORDER: 1 slice of Regina (tomato sauce, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, oregano, bufalo mozzarella, microbasil), 1 slice of Cotto & Funghi (tomato sauce, mozzarella, Italian ham, shiitake mushrooms, parmigiano, basil), 1 slice of Burrata (mozzarella, prosciutto di parma, burrata, arugula, cherry tomatoes)
REVIEW:
Roman around New York. With the recent opening of Mani in Pasta in Gramercy Park, the Romans have arrived - the Roman style pizzas, that is. Roman pizza is traditionally crisper than Naples and places more focus on topping combinations. Co-owner and award-winning chef Giuseppe Manco takes his topping combinations seriously, curating a menu of signature pizzas comprised of the highest quality ingredients. The results are exquisite. Take, for instance, the Burrata which layers creamy low moisture mozzarella and prosciutto di parma with cherry tomatoes and arugula - oh, and then heaps of olive oil drizzled Burrata! Under all that weight, the sturdy Roman crust held fast. I recommend dining in with friends and sharing as many different options as possible. That said, I'm confident the pizza would travel and re-heat well too. There are many other items served at Mani in Pasta but until I try all of the unique topping combinations, I'm ordering the pizza!
