Day 9, 2017: B Squared (Hell's Kitchen, NYC)

Exterior
Interior

DAY 9: OCTOBER 9th, 2017

LOCATION: B Squared (679 9th Ave, New York, NY 10036)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Michael McLarnon, Habiba Waziruddin

ORDER: 2 slices of Marge (tomato, mozzarella, basil, oregano, sea salt), 2 slices of Spicoli (tomato, mozzarella, roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, parmesan), 2 slices of Carbonara (fontina, mozzarella, pancetta, panna, parmesan, black pepper, egg), 1 slice of Killer Bee (tomato, mozzarella, sopressata, garlic puree, chili oil, honey)

REVIEW:
Craft drafts & pizza. Offering the same proven favorite signature pies and a full bar, B Squared  owes a lot to its neighbor and older sister restaurant called B-Sides.  Since it is located directly on Ninth Avenue, B Squared accommodates for the increased foot traffic it enjoys with a larger dining area.  One of the ways it does this is by hiding the wood-fired brick oven in the basement. Although it isn't visible, there is no mistaking the trademark wood-fired oven char - some pies more than other. Once the pizzaioli familiarize themselves with the eccentricities of the oven, expect an even bake on every pizza. Certain topping combinations require slightly more time to cook but, given the high quality of each ingredient on a B Squared pie, expect them all to taste delicious. I'm not sure how to eat pizza with egg concentrated on a single slice but would happily give it another go. Couple your pizza with a craft beer or fine wine - both available on tap - for a fancy take on the divine combo of "pizza and beer." The prices are reasonable and the generous amounts of melted fresh mozzarella are unforgettable. I recommend the salty-sweet combo of the Killer Bee for the adventurous or the flavorful Marge, B Squared's interpretation of the traditional Margherita, for the more conventional. For myself, I'll take them both please.

Day 9

MISCELLANEOUS:
Robin, Michael, Habiba, Sean

1. Robin Rothman spent a good portion of the night learning licks on her electric guitar. She's got "Enter Sandman" by Metallica pretty well and I can't wait to hear what she does next. Our cat, MaryLoo, just wants to know why the amp is making noise.

Classic gelato at Amarino
2. Habiba Waziruddin and Michael McLarnon just got back from Paris where they went on a food tour and Chicago where they scored tickets to Hamilton.  Now they are looking forward to staying in New York for a little while and eat pizza and get gelato with Robin and I.

Killer bee sounds intriguing. I'm also very curious about the egg on the pizza. Remember that question you posed one time.... what toppings should *never* be on a pizza? Was egg on that list? Should it be?
