Day 20, 2017: Sottocasa (Harlem, NYC)

DAY 20: OCTOBER 20th, 2017

LOCATION: Sottocasa (227 Lenox Ave, New York, NY 10027)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Lily Rothman, Paul Rothman, Elana Fishbein

ORDER: 2 slices of Margherita (tomatoes, mozzarella, basil), 3 slices of Diavola (tomatoes, mozzarella, hot soppressata, olives, basil), 2 slices of Boscaiola (tomatoes, mozzarella, hot italian sausage, gorgonzola, mushrooms, basil), 1 slice of Burrata (cherry tomatoes, burrata, basil, sea salt)

REVIEW:
Craft beer, craftier pizza. Italian for "under the house," the appropriately named Sottocasa has another basement to occupy and this one's in Harlem! Just like its older sibling in Brooklyn, the menu, mastery of the wood-fired oven, and sophisticated beverage selection arrived in Manhattan perfectly in tact. Proven favorite pies featuring spicy soppressata, creamy burrata, and excellently sourced sausage provide a creative alternative to the traditional Naples but, they do that too! The large inviting space is perfect for a a family outing, but there are a few intimate nooks which can be snagged for a romantic date. I recommend ordering at least one conventional pie and one signature artisan pie and share. Pair it with an imported Italian craft beer for an exquisite take on an evening of pizza and beer. Sottocasa's menu also features other high quality dishes and fine wine but make sure you save room for the artfully charred pizza.

Day 20

MISCELLANEOUS:
Sean, Robin, Lily, Paul, Elana

1. It's supposed to be good luck when a bird poops on you.  If that's the case then Robin Rothman and Lily Rothman have a lot of luck heading their direction thanks to the work of a single bird.

2. Robin, Lily, and Paul Rothman visited the Bronx Botanical Gardens before pizza and the Magnet Theater's New York Musical Improv Festival afterward.

3. Elana Fishbein loves to read on the subway...so if you see her enjoying a book, there's no need to say, "hi."

4. After pizza, Elana and I went to a Jackbox party hosted by Matt Shafeek.  He has the new Jackbox Party Pack 4 and it's the best way to hang out with friends AND be on your smart phone.
