Day 12,2007: Luzzo's (E. Village, NYC)

LOCATION: Luzzo's (1st Avenue between 12th and 13th Street, NYC)

GUEST(S): Dorothy Lin
ORDER: 2 slices of Buffala, 2 slices of Davila
PIZZA REPORT: Jackpot! What a discovery. I'm excited that this coal fired brick oven pizza place hit my radar and you will be too. Luzzo's serves high quality individual pizzas with fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese, savory tomato sauce and unique toppings which range from mild to wild on the spicy scale.
ATMOSPHERE: Tucked away in the East Village it's easy to overlook Luzzo's, but once you go, you'll want to [save  up and] go back. Equipped with a full bar and mood lighting, Luzzo's is a great date place. In addition to the superb product, it is quiet, hip, and not much of a wait. Get here before the word gets out. Bring about $16-17 per person for pizza, tax, and tip. Bring a little more if you want to wash it down with something aside from water.
VERDICT: 4 out of 5
MISC:1. Luzzo's is New York City's newest coal fired brick oven pizzeria. How does such a young store get grandfathered in? By buying out an old bakery and refurbishing it's old coal oven. Good move, Luzzo's, good move!
2. According to article in the NY Post, Luzzo's is Martha Stewart's favorite pizza place.
3. Dorothy (Dot) Lin and I went to a cookie place with no name...well, no sign out front. Just look for cookies in the window. They really make a great post pizza snack.
