GUEST(S): Jon Monje, Matthew Shafeek, Ange DeManti, Maddy Mako

ORDER: 1 slice of cheese, 1/2 slice of Potato & Onion (Sliced potatoes, red onion, mozzarella, and gruyere bechamel, fresh shaved pecorino cheese, chives, sea salt, imported EVOO), 1/2 slice of Salsiccia (hot Italian sausage, melted mozzarella, Calabrian chili, Red onions, whipped Ricotta sauce, fresh shaved pecorino cheese, chopped parsley, and imported EVOO), 1/2 slice of Grandma with Pepperoni

REVIEW:
More, more, more! Lucia Pizza has created a new pizza trend that is taking over New York City one neighborhood at a time. That trend is literally opening up a top tier classic slice shop one neighborhood at a time. What started in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn and continued to SoHo has now moved north with the opening of Lucia Pizza of UES.  Now the Upper East Side has a go-to spot for high caliber slices from a reliable name. Lucia Pizza offers multiple crust styles including the quintessential NYC street slice, a thick Sicilian square and a thinner Grandma.  Each are carefully baked in a state-of-the-art electric oven then garnished with olive oil and freshly shaved pecorino cheese. While you can’t go wrong with the NY Plain slice, I recommend taking advantage of the creative signature slices available at the counter as well. The Potato and Onion, for instance, brings thinly cut potatoes together with subtle herbal chives, melted mozzarella, a buttery gruyere bechamel, and red onions for a flavor combo that might just change the pizza paradigm.  Superb ingredients on a perfectly crisp-yet-chewy crust is a recipe for success. Lucia Pizza’s deserved success may have you jockeying for a seat in the cozy dining area but fret not! These slices are built to travel.  Take it home in a box or fold it up and eat it on the go in nearby Central Park.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Sean Taylor, Jon Monje, Matt Shafeek, Maddy Mako, Ange DeManti

1. Maddy Mako referred me into Learned League - an online trivia community with seasonal tournaments. While we may not be in the top bracket (LL calls these "rundles") we both finished high enough this last season to be promoted up! Maddy finished in first place!

post pizza walk in the park

2. After eating our slices we all took a nice walk in Central Park. It was beautiful weather. This was Matt Shafeek's second walk in the park of the day!

3. Ange DeManti didn't eat much pizza because she had arrived directly from a 1st date. We all agree, talking about 1st dates never gets old.

4. Jon Monje loves improv, theater, and pizza. It's no wonder we get along so well. He works at multiple theaters, a pizza tour guide, and even left our pizza meal to take part in an improv comedy jam at the Magnet Theater.
