DAY 25: OCTOBER 25th, 2023

LOCATION: Lo Duca (14 Newkirk Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11226)

GUEST(S): Scott Wiener, Nick Kanellis

ORDER: 1 slice of grandma, 1/2 slice of plain, 1/3 slice of vodka, 1/2 slice of Burrata and Cherry tomatoes, 1/3 slice of Lemon Chicken

REVIEW:
Making grandma proud and delicious   The four brothers that run Lo Duca Pizza in Flatbush,  Brooklyn serve a superb grandma style slice of pizza. Local residents agree that this neighborhood slice shop has a good thing going. Located upstairs from the train platform in Newkirk Plaza, Lo Duca couldn’t be more convenient. They offer a wide variety of topping options and multiple crust thicknesses. I was there when it opened (before noon) and they were already nine different pie options awaiting the lunch crowd. In addition to a classic round New York pie, there was a lemon chicken Sicilian, a barbecue round pie, a vodka square, a Burrata and cherry tomato specialty slice, and a couple of deep dish pies. If I lived in the area I would eagerly try them all but only after I ordered at least one grandma slice. This twice-baked semi-thin square comes layered with melted cheese and graced with dollops of savory tomato sauce, basil, and a multitude of other herbs and spices that combine for a truly memorable slice. Speaking of memorable, the staff behind the counter seemed to recognize about a third of the clientele. They know your name and glad you came, cheers, Lo Duca!

MISCELLANEOUS:
Nico, Nick Kanellis, Scott Wiener, Sean Taylor

1. Turns out Nick Kanellis and Scott Wiener live about 10 minutes from each other where the midpoint of their respective homes is Lo Duca! And both Nick and Scott have children that were born this year a mere month or so apart. Maybe their kids will grow up best buds.

2. Nick Kanellis performs in one of the flagship improv comedy shows at the Magnet Theater called Trike

3. Scott Wiener is my long-time pizza bud. He owns a company called Scott's Pizza Tours that take people to pizzerias of historical significance.  Also, he runs a charity called Slice Out Hunger that does pizza party events for a good cause like the recent Pizza on the Pier.

4. We had to arrive and eat soon after Lo Duca opened because I needed to get to JFK airport to fly to Las Vegas.
