REVIEW:
Not missin' Abeetz. After 85 years, New Haven pizza institution Sally’s Apizza has begun to expand and they are doing it the right way. Embracing the coal-fired tomato pies that put them on the map since 1938, Sally's Apizza has built coal ovens in new locations in both Fairfield and Stamford with plans (according to the website) to open many more! This is excellent news for New England pizza lovers. These high heat tomato pies are served with Sally’s secret sauce on a thin, crisp crust and that’s all you need. Yes they offer their trademark clam pie along with several other signatures but the simple red sauce is reason enough to go. Add pepperoni for an extra savory delight. The Stamford location has three spacious dining areas, outdoor seating, and a full bar surrounding the 14' by 14' coal oven behemoth. I recommend arriving between meals to avoid the rush or, if you are fortunate enough to live in the Stamford vicinity, order your apizza to go! Either way, expect your pies to be prepped and served post haste as the crew is a well-oiled pizza making and baking machine. While Sally's hasn't yet catered their pizza to the gluten free crowd, they have the rest of us covered.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Kevin Danenberg, Clara, Jen Danenberg, Robin Rothman, Sean Taylor
1. Keven Danenberg recently made a "Sean Taylor style catch" in softball. I held my breath to find out whether that meant he caught it or dropped it - fortunately, he caught it!
2. Clara has a similar appetite as I had when I was younger - wonder what food she will blog about in her future?
3. Jen MacNeil knew each other from our UCB days but actually "met" at Pizza Suprema on Day 7 of Pizza Month 2003. She also met the man that would eventually be her cousin's husband that day.
Stamford sign
4. Robin Rothman and I took Sally's Apizza is just a short 15 minute walk from the train station. Stamford, CT is a very walkable town and has a colorful sign that says "Stamford" right by the station. It's also the home to the headquarters of the World Wrestling Entertainment company. You can tell which building it is by looking for the huge WWE championship belt in front of it.RATING:
