LOCATION: Little Charli (271 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10014)
GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Shannon Krowicki, Jon Bander
ORDER: 2 slices of Margherita (Tomato, Mozzarella, Basil, grated cheese), 2 slices of Diablo (Chili Paste, Hot Sopressata, Hot Honey, grated cheese), 2 slices of Snow White (Mozzarella, Ricotta, Pepper, Olive Oil, herbs, grated cheese)
REVIEW:
Situated at the exact same West Village address as the original Kestè, Little Charli is the new date-worthy pizzeria in town. Instead of baking softer Napoletana style pizza, Little Charli is slinging thin and crisp Roman style pizzas built for supporting creative topping combinations. These pizzas are also about 50% larger than their Napoletana ancestors so don’t be shocked by the prices, The menu had three signature pies and virtually limitless build-your-own options. I recommend ordering at least two so you can mix it up a little. We, for instance, had the chili paste, hot soppressata and spicy honey infused Diavola which was a delightful flavor foil to our other selection, a traditional Margherita. The rustic domed wood-burning oven at the far end of Little Charli is reason enough to go. Not only did it serve as a warm welcome on a damp day but it cooked our pizzas! Even the topping-less patches of crust have a great wood-smoked flavor to them. Little Charli is currently BYOB but definitely leave the pizza to oven-tending expert in the back.
