Day 24, 2021: Leo (Williamsburg, Brooklyn)

DAY 24: OCTOBER 24th, 2021

LOCATION: Leo (123 Havemeyer St, Brooklyn, NY 11211)

GUEST(S): Sean Manning

ORDER: 2 slices of Clam Pie (Clams, cream, garlic, chili, parsley, pecorino), 1 slice of Margherita (Tomatoes, mozzarella, basil), 1/2 slice of square potato pie (potatoes, provola, oregano)

REVIEW:
Sourdough pizza date place. Regardless of what your horoscope may say, you are compatible with at least one Leo. I’m referring to the Leo Pizzeria in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, of course. There is something for everybody. If you have dietary restrictions, Leo offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.  There are also two locations in one depending on whether you want a sit-down restaurant experience or prefer to takeout from the bakery. After one bite, you may want both! Founded by the same pizzeria team that created Ops in Bushwick (thanks, Gothamist), I have a similar recommendation: go with at least one other person and get something traditional like the Margherita and something unique. The menu lists several innovative Leo originals depending on whether you want pickled banana peppers and asiago or shallots and taleggio. All of the ingredients are of the highest quality so, chances are, if it sounds good, it will be. My pizza guest was pescatarian and we were delighted to see a signature Clam Pie on the menu and even more delighted to devour it. The sit down restaurant side has the authentic domed shaped wood burning oven that chars each sourdough crust ever so lightly so as not to add any bitterness to the flavor profile. If you want exquisite pizza at a reasonable price, visit Leo.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Sean & Sean
1. Sean Manning is a softball teammate of mine during the summer. We're the Turkeys. He arrived at our pizza date with two pieces of Turkeys apparel: a hat and a T-shirt.  Both items commemorate former members of our team's retirement and induction to the Williamsburg Softball League Hall of Fame. Congrats, J.L. and Dan Shafer.

2. After my pizza date with my summer league teammate, I met up with my fall league softball team and found out we had jerseys and a banner courtesy of our sponsor, Ace's Pizza

3. Even though I had already had pizza prior to the game and even though we lost the game, we still went to Ace's for a pizza party afterward.

4. Hopefully we do better with the rest of the season as we are currently 2 and 2 after four games.
