DAY 24: OCTOBER 24th, 2020

LOCATION: Metro Pizza (4001 S Decatur Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89103)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Cynthia Taylor, Roger, Kitzi Taylor, Lily Rothman, Paul Rothman

ORDER: 2 slices of cheese 86th Street Square Pie (Mozzarella, Tomato Sauce, Romano Cheese and Olive Oil), 1 slice of pepperoni

REVIEW:
A pizza fans' pizzeria. Eating at Metro Pizza is a true celebration of all things pizza. The Vegas chain began as a dream of two Brooklyn cousins and has blossomed into established institution. From traditional Napoletana to Chicago deep dish and everything in between, Metro Pizza is a one stop shop for any style. I opted for the 86th Street Square Pie and hit the jackpot.  Not unlike the L&B Spumoni Gardens (located on "86th Street" in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn) this Sicilian Style pan pizza is topped with generous amounts of melted mozzarella cheese, simmered tomato sauce, grated Romano and a drizzle of olive oil. It's cooked to perfection where the thick crust is crisp yet surprisingly light. For a spicy kick, add old school pepperoni. Consistent with the best versions of this style, a single pie feeds more than four adults and reheats as well (or better) than the initial bake. Whether it is an homage celebrating New York Sicilian or a Metro Pizza signature doesn't matter, what does matter is that it's just right.

1. Zoom enabled us to have a virtual family reunion of sorts in addition to a pizza party. My aunt, mom, wife, and in-laws were all able to be brought together in pursuit of pizza.

2. After we ate, a coyote from across the lake got hungry too. I got a photo of him with my phone and even though he was at quite a distance, it was too close for comfort.

3. Robin performed a spooky Halloween show online thanks to make-up, a greenscreen, and a whole lot of technology.  Who knew hanging a greenscreen in a Las Vegas bathroom could be the setting of a show featured in the Edinburgh (Scotland) Horror Festival?  I play the undead Shane Taymor, the emcee in the beginning. See she show here
