Day 20, 2020: Udi's Sweet Potato Crust (Las Vegas, NV)

box

DAY 20: OCTOBER 20th, 2020

LOCATION: Udi's Sweet Potato Crust

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Lorina Ladrillono, Katey

ORDER: 4 slices of barbecue flavored chicken pizza (mozzarella, smoked Gouda, sweet barbecue sauce, and white meat chicken)

REVIEW:
A tasty gluten-free option. If you're getting glutenous pizza for a group, you might want to pick up an Udi's gluten-free frozen pizza in case someone has a dietary restriction. Several of Udi's varieties utilize a sweet potato crust which aesthetically looks like a traditional flatbread pizza. Somehow they have figured out a way to turn a sweet potato into a reliably sturdy foundation for pizza toppings. The consistency was not unlike a thick quesadilla. Instead of the subtle taste of a folded flour tortilla, however, the crust has a distinct sweet potato flavor to it. Udi's optimizes this by offsetting it with bold toppings like the tangy barbecue sauce and smoked Gouda. These combined with the savory white meat chicken and melted mozzarella make for a surprisingly filling meal for two people. Alternatively, this could be sliced up into squares and served as pizza-like hors devours at a party. Udi's proves that food doesn't have to have gluten to taste good.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Katie, Lorina, Sean Robin
1. Katie and Lorina have been pizza guests for at least three years straight. She's growing up and I'm growing gray. Lorina and Robin seem to be staying the same.

2. We put the computer on the cat tree and stood up while we ate our pizza. Cat didn't seem to mind.

3. In non-pandemic times, Lorina and I eat pizza together every pizza month. In just about every year, she shows up with a pizza-related gift. We agreed we'd meet for pizza online this year so you can imagine my surprise when a gift showed up in the mail. It's a make-your-own gummy pizza food cart.

4. Since Robin and I are in our last night of precautionary quarantine, I figured, let's make some gummy pizza now.  We did our best and although it didn't turn out like it did in the YouTube video, that didn't stop me from devouring our attempt.
