DAY 10: OCTOBER 10th, 2019

LOCATION: Vito's Slices and Ices (464 9th Ave, New York, NY 10018)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman

ORDER: 1 slice of cheese with sausage, 1 slice of grandma

REVIEW:
Cookin' in the Kitchen. Vito's Slices and Ices may be new to Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen, but its opening brought decades of New York City pizza experience with it. The owner has been tossing pies since he was 15 and modeled this pizzeria-of-his-adulthood after the pizzeria-of-his-youth. Vito's greaseless letterboard menu and pristine gas powered ovens are a throwback to a classic slice joint only cleaner.  Using top quality ingredients in signature pies both square and circular, all of the offerings, according to the man behind the counter,  are their "most popular." Optimizing for the limited space, the dining area includes a restroom and several stools facing outward towards the full length aquarium-esque windows with a view of 9th Avenue. Vito's is both close enough to Midtown to be convenient but not too close to contend with the massive tourist foot traffic. Expect a steady stream of local residents until its late night closing hour, however, as word of a great new pizza place travels quickly in these parts. I recommend grabbing at least one freshly cooked grandma slice and an Italian ice. In case you forget, the instructions are right there in the name of the place: Vito's Slices and Ices.

Day 10

MISCELLANEOUS:

Sean Taylor and Robin Rothman
1. For richer or poorer or last minute pizza guest. My wife, Robin Rothman stepped up and met me despite feeling under the weather at Vito's with 15 minutes notice.  Boy do I know how to marry 'em!

View from the tech booth at the Magnet Theater
2. I had to cancel my previous pizza plan since I was needed to tech at the Magnet Theater tonight.  To be honest, I really enjoy teching and love the shows on the Magnet stage. Tonight I saw Nights of Our Lives which is storytelling show hosted by David Martin.  It features Adam Wade, my storytelling teacher.  The show and these people are the greatest.

Eleanor Lewis
3. Eleanor Lewis, an instructor at the Magnet Theater was celebrating National Pizza Month before taking part in the show Shirley Jackson's The Lottery.
