Day 7, 2014: Merilu (Hell's Kitchen, NYC)

DAY 7: OCTOBER 7th, 2014

LOCATION: Merilu Pizza Al Metro (791 9th Ave, Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, NYC)

GUEST(S): Jeremy Rothman

ORDER: 2 slices of pepperoni, 2 slices of margherita, 1 slice of margherita with ricotta, and 1 slice of hot sopressata and crushed red pepper

REVIEW:
At Merilu, there's no place like Rome.  Merilu al Metro sells great tasting Roman style pizza "by the meter." Don't worry about any metric system conversions, selling it "by the meter" or "al metro" is the Roman equivalent to selling it by the slice.  Merilu's long, thin, rectangular pie style was born and popularized in Rome back in the 1960's.  The design's intent is to maximize the space in the gas-powered deck ovens and create a sturdy canvas for the creative topping combinations.  Fusing high quality ingredients in both traditional and unique ways, Merilu does exactly that.  The generously applied creamy fresh mozzarella and tangy tomato sauce alone ensure a great tasting, surprisingly filling slice every time.  Merilu's Roman pizza by the meter makes me a happy eater.

MISCELLANEOUS:

1. Robin Rothman and I packed up the remaining pizza and headed to JFK.  We will be in Las Vegas and Arizona for the next week.
2. Jason Rothman is Robin's cousin.  So, I guess he is my cousin-in-law.  He and I typically talk about baseball.  He's a Phillies fan and I'm a Mets fan.  Our respective teams did not do so well this year.
3. This pizzeria shares a similar sounding name with our rescue cat MaryLoo.  I had previously included a photo of Merilu and MaryLoo in a blog contribution I wrote for delivery.com but it wasn't included - so, here it is...
