Day 8b, 2013: Pizzeria Delfina (San Francisco, CA)

DAY 8b: OCTOBER 8th, 2013

LOCATION: Pizzeria Delfina (3611 18th St, San Francisco, CA)

ORDER: 1/2 of personal Margherita, 1 slice of a Salsiccia, 1 slice of Clam Pie

GUEST(S): Adam Koppel, Laura Han, Michelle, John Amaro, Shawn Amaro, Robin Rothman

REVIEW:
Delfina is del-finest! If you can imagine taking the best parts of a Napoletana style pizza and combining them with the best parts of a New York style pizza you are likely imagining a pie made by Pizzeria Delfina.  The pies are personal sized, in the tradition of Naples, yet superbly cooked to provide a solid underside that New Yorkers call "foldable."  Just about everyone calls it, "delicious."  The demand for these gas powered oven crusted masterpieces far exceeds the seating capacity of the quaint pizzeria but, trust me, it's worth the wait.  On top of churning out perfectly sculpted puffy-yet-light-and-flavorful crust, the topping quality and combinations are second to none.  Whether you go for the anything-but-standard Margherita, the spicy sausage on the Salsiccia, or the savory uniqueness of the clam pie, you'll be happy you did.  I can't wait to go back to San Francisco and I think Delfina is the primary reason.

Try to take public transportation to Delfina since the street parking in the area is limited and seemed to be geared to accommodate compact cars only.

MISCELLANEOUS:
1. This was my first ever visit to San Francisco.  The first thing Robin Rothman and I did was go to Fisherman's Wharf and scarf down some crab chowder in a sour dough bread bowl, then we drove over the Golden Gate bridge.  There is a toll but no toll collectors.  Apparently, you either use EZ Pass or they take a photo of your license and mail the bill back home.  We'll see how that works itself out with our rental car bill.

2. Adam Koppel and I used to be on a UCB Harold Team together called FILTH.  He was amazing at embodying animals.  His giraffe was particularly impressive.
3. On suggestion of Laura Han, we grabbed dessert at the nearby Buy-Rite ice cream stand.  Wow! Amazing.
4. Michelle and John Amaro are fans of my blog from prior years and I was thrilled to get to meet them.  They live up on historic Haight-Ashbury.
5. Shawn Amaro is very good at not only parking cars but finding legal parking places in the city.

omg. I should have listened to your warning "do not view on an empty stomach."

I'm going to San Francisco in a couple of weeks and can't wait to try this out. Neapolitan pizza mixed with New York pizza?? That sounds like my DREAM pizza.
