REVIEW:
A Fun Hang in the Short North. Mikey’s Late Night Slice on North High Street is exactly what its name promises—and then some. Located in the heart of Columbus’s Short North neighborhood, this spot is equal parts pizza joint, art gallery, and late-night party. Between the cheeky décor, hidden secrets, and neon glow, there’s always something new to discover here—even before you get to the pizza. Upon entry, take note: the line on the right is for slices and pies, while the left-hand side leads to the bar. Choose your own adventure. The main floor is wide open with comfy booths and tables, but if you’re feeling adventurous, make your way downstairs to the hidden tiki speakeasy (or Tik-easy) bar tucked behind a walk-in freezer. That alone is worth the trip. The art on the walls is as playful as the atmosphere—look twice and you’ll catch the wandering eyes on a Ghostbusters II portrait, a not-so-subtle “coke” machine gag, and even a secret message or two. Mikey’s clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously... except when it comes to the pizza. Though the dough is made off-site, the thin crust pies hold up impressively well in the electric conveyor oven. Even the most topping-heavy specialty pizzas keep their crunch. I recommend keeping it classic with a spicy pepperoni slice—bonus points if you pair it with one of the excellent local beers on tap. No need to rush either; as the name suggests, Mikey’s is open late. So grab a slice, grab a drink, and soak in the vibe. Good pizza, good humor, and good times—Columbus-style.
