REVIEW:
Full speed ahead! With the opening of Turbo Pizza, Bushwick residents just got a serious upgrade to their neighborhood hangout. Equal parts bar, pizzeria, and chill-out spot, this place has laid-back sports bar–meets–cool basement vibes that make it easy to settle in for the evening — and even easier to stay for another slice. While the main attraction here is the bar, don't miss the Detroit-style pizza. These thick, rectangular Sicilian-inspired pies come in three pan sizes and all sorts of topping combinations, but the real showstopper is the crispy frico (that glorious ring of fried cheese) that frames each slice. My favorite was the Pepperoni Pie, which arrived bubbling hot and loaded with spicy pepperoni cups, gooey mozzarella, and a savory tomato sauce I couldn’t get enough of. Next time, I’m asking for extra sauce. Feeling non-saucy? Try one of the more offbeat options like the Buffalo Chicken Pie, where tangy Buffalo sauce and blue cheese take the place of tomato sauce. Whichever you choose, expect generous portions, satisfying crunch, and a pie that pairs perfectly with a cold drink from the full bar. I’ll definitely be back to Turbo Pizza — and when I do, I’m putting the pedal to the metal on another Pepperoni Pie.

1. Andrew Fafoutakis used to play flag football and, now that its an Olympic sport, is not opposed to dusting off his old flag belt and answering the call - should the country call.
