DAY 19: OCTOBER 19th, 2025
LOCATION: Cugino Forno Pizzeria (1160 Revolution Mill Dr, Greensboro, NC 27405)
GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Ryan Hrvatin
ORDER: 2 slices of Margherita D.O.P. (San Marzano Tomato Sauce, Bufala Mozzarella Cheese, Fresh Basil, Olive Oil), 2 slices of Livorno (Italian sausage, San Marzano Tomato Sauce, Bufala Mozzarella Cheese, Fresh Basil)
REVIEW:
Small pizza chain heating up. Neapolitan pizza is on the rise in North Carolina, and much of the credit goes to Cugino Forno, a fast-growing regional chain that’s spreading authentic Italian flavor across the state. Their Greensboro location alone boasts three imported wood-fired dome ovens—each one cranking out leopard-spotted pies that look (and taste) straight out of Naples. The menu reads like a greatest hits collection of Neapolitan classics, from the simple-yet-satisfying Margherita to the mushroom-laden Funghi, plus a nod to the States with the pepperoni-topped Americano. These high-heat beauties bake up soft, puffy, and lightly charred, though with a few American twists—basil baked on instead of post-oven, a restrained ladle of sauce, and mozzarella di bufala that runs on the drier side. Order at the counter, grab a seat in the cavernous dining hall, or take your pie next door to the Revolution Mills brewery. If you’re in a hurry, they even sell frozen versions to bake at home. Locals have already caught on, so don’t be surprised if there’s a line. Look for a Cugino Forno near you.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Ryan Hrvatin, Sean Taylor, Robin Rothman
1. After we ate our pizza, Robin Rothman and Ryan Hrvatin both scored some items from the Art-o-matic near the restrooms of the Brewery. Robin got two pairs of earrings and Ryan is the proud new owner of a barcode temporary tattoo.
2. Ryan Hrvatin and I were both members of the same little league team in Valrico, Florida. We were called the Bloomingdale Banjos. Neither one of us was good enough to make our High School's baseball team so I guess that was the last organized baseball league we both took part in.
3. Ryan Hrvatin has amazing taste in music and comedy. He knew about Green Day before they were big and we both love I THINK YOU SHOULD LEAVE on Netflix.
4. After a 2 hour delay awaiting our rental car pick-up (Budget ran out of cars), we drove straight through directly from Washington DC to Greensboro, NC without stopping. That's more than 5 hours without a pit stop!
5. We were supposed to meet up with Jason Bohon but he went to the Winston-Salem branch of Cugino Forno. He wound up eating there instead so, technically, we were all celebrating Pizza Month at the same time in the same pizzeria in two different locations!
