DAY 30: OCTOBER 30th, 2023

LOCATION: Metro Pizza at Ellis Island Hotel, Casino, and Brewery (4178 Koval Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89109)

GUEST(S): Sid Taylor, Carolyn Taylor

ORDER: 1 slice of cheese, 1/3 slice of bbq chicken, 1/3 slice of pepperoni & jalapeño

REVIEW:
The best bet in the casino.  Regardless of how you fare with the slots at the Ellis Island Casino, you’ll always win with a slice at the Metro Pizza in the corner. Located just off the Las Vegas strip, this outpost differentiates itself from the other Vegas Metro Pizza locations (and the one in Henderson) by specializing in the quick slice. Much like a typical New York pizzeria, several pre-sliced pie options are available behind the glass counter. My favorite among them being the classic plain cheese - the savory tomato sauce and melted mozzarella combination instantly transporting me to a happy place. When the long-fermented flavorful dough is pounded out as intended, the crisp gas-powered crust will support these high quality ingredients and permit you to fold the underside and take it on-the-go just like they do in NYC. But you don’t have to go anywhere. There are a surprising number of seats in the recently upgraded, well-ventilated dining area should you want to dine in or meet up with a friend or two. If you’re still hungry, I was informed that the crew’s favorite is the barbecue chicken. Whatever slice you decide to put your money on, they’re all winners!

MISCELLANEOUS:
Sean Taylor, Sid Taylor, Carolyn Taylor
1. Sid Taylor (my dad) and Carolyn Taylor are midway through their cross-country roadtrip to see Americana and retrace some of their older memories of the West. Fortunately, Las Vegas was on their list and they visited the same time I did.

Bus from Summerlin to the Strip
2. I took the bus from Summerlin to the stip and had the whole double bus to myself (for a few stops). Also, I was very impressed with the public transit system in Vegas.

Top Golf(ing)
3. My dad and I had never been to Top Golf before despite playing golf our whole lives...so we gave it a whirl in downtown Las Vegas. It was fun! They provide good quality clubs and give data like ball speed. My best ball speed was just over 130mph and my back will likely feel it tomorrow.

4. After Top Golf, we went to the Wynn casino and watched game three of the World Series (and the Vegas Raiders football game...and like ten other sporting events). So much sports stimulation called for some relaxing nickel poker afterward followed by a trip to In-and-Out Burger.
