DAY 14: OCTOBER 14th, 2023

LOCATION: The Astarita (797 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11232)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, John Wlaysewski

ORDER: 2 slices of Pizza Margherita (tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, impoted parmiggiano reggiano fresh basil), 1.5 slices of Pizza Capriccioso (tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, portabella mushrooms, olives, prosciutto cotto)

REVIEW:
Peaceful pizza. Across the street from Green-Wood cemetery in South Slope, Brooklyn there is a little pizzeria named Astarita that is serving up some of the best looking pizzas in the city. During the day, light pours in through the large windows on the unobstructed tombstone side of the street cascading a soft glow upon the photogenic and mouthwatering pies. Astarita starts with superb ingredients, adds brilliant cooking techniques, and finishes in a gas-powered brick oven to create tasty and crisp pizza every time. Although they are thin, they are larger than typical New York Neapolitan style pies. Two signature pizzas can more than feed three people. I recommend something traditional, like the Margherita and something a bit more creative like the hot honey and pepperoni topped Mr. William pizza or the mushroom, olive, and prosciutto topped Pizza Capriccioso. If the non-pizza options are anything like the pizza, Astarita could be you new favorite Italian restaurant.
