Day 2, 2021: Hoek (Red Hook, Brooklyn)

exterior

DAY 2: OCTOBER 2nd, 2021

LOCATION: Hoek Pizza (117 Ferris St, Brooklyn, NY 11231)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman

ORDER: 2 slices of Margherita (Fior di latte, tomato, basil) and 2 slices of Prosciutto cotto, cremini mushrooms, fior di latte, truffle

REVIEW:
At the corner of New and Old Brooklyn.  Dutch for "corner," Hoek is not just part of the original name of Red Hook (Roode Hoek), Brooklyn but also one of the borough's newer brick oven pizzerias.  Situated at the literal corner of a quiet old cobblestone street and the New York Bay, Hoek Pizza provides much more than just a great meal. While seated at the spacious outdoor streetery, you can take in views of the skyline and the Statue of Liberty while also taking in bites of high quality Roman style pizza. Cooked with top tier ingredients in a gorgeous domed wood-powered brick oven, these thin and larger-than-average personal sized pizzas can satisfy just about any appetite. According to the Brooklyn Paper, the menu was created by owner and Rome native Kenny Solomon so rest assured that each of the half dozen signature pies are as authentic as they are delicious.  I recommend getting one signature pie with "red" tomato sauce and one "white" without.  Although Roman style pizza is renowned for the creative topping combinations, my favorite was the traditional fior di latte, tomato, and basil pie. Pair your pizza with a  beverage from their full bar and a tasty salad for a date-worthy experience. Hoek Pizza is also kid-friendly, pet-friendly, and dietary restriction-friendly so bring the whole family. If I lived in the area, this would be my go-to neighborhood pizzeria.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Robin and Sean
1. Robin Rothman and I grabbed the IKEA ferry to Red Hook, Brooklyn to get a piece of furniture and eat pizza. Then we grabbed dessert and took a long walk on a long pier to enjoy it surrounded by the NY harbor, the Downtown skyline and the Statue of Liberty. I <3 NY

2. Boy did I marry the right person.  Not only does she tolerate a guy eating pizza every day of every October but Robin Rothman embraces it!
