LOCATION: Fresco's Pizzeria (804 W. 187th Street, New York, NY 10040)
GUEST(S): Erik Tanouye
ORDER: 1 slice of regular, 1 slice of La Nonna / The Grandma (Fresh garlic, fresh mozzarella and homemade marinara topped with fresh basil, Tuscan olive oil and Parmigiano-Reggiano)
REVIEW:
A slice in the Heights. Thanks to Fresco's Pizzeria, Hudson Heights residents can have their slice and their pie...and it eat it too. From the crisp-yet-foldable crust to the generous portions of melted mozzarella and sauce, the regular cheese slice typifies the quintessential New York street slice and tastes even better. You want toppings? Fresco's got toppings. The display counter is loaded with various varieties of meat, veggie, and specialty pies. I recommend ordering a slice from the freshest pie in the display case or order a new pizza altogether. The signature twice-baked rectangular La Nonna (The Grandma) comes loaded with three types of Italian cheese, a homemade marinara, freshly diced basil, Tuscan olive oil and no shortage of garlic. Dine in or take it to go and reheat any leftovers as a thrice-baked grandma is twice as nice.
