DAY 18: OCTOBER 18th, 2015

LOCATION: Patrizia's of Manhattan (462 2nd Ave, Kips Bay, NYC)

GUEST(S): Alexander "Xander" Wahl, Alyssa See, Lance Kushner

ORDER: 2 slices of Margherita, 1 slice of Parma (prosciutto di parma, mozzarella, grape tomatoes, arugula, shaved parmigiano), 1.5 slices of Patrizia (Arugula, shaved parmigiano, sopressata and salami), 1 slice of Buffalo Chicken (Tomato, mozzarella, chicken, hot sauce and bleu cheese)

REVIEW:
Mastering another borough.  Good news, Manhattanites, Patrizia's of Brooklyn which also has a location in the Bronx and Staten Island is now open in the city! The two-tiered spacious dining area and weather-permitting outdoor seating provides patrons a warm and inviting atmosphere to enjoy multiple courses of some amazing Italian food. Though known for their traditional family style Italian cuisine, Patrizia's has really heated up their pizza game by resurrecting coal ovens of previous tenants - which include New York pizza institutions Totonno's and Grimaldi's.  The Margherita, for instance, comes with generously applied perfectly seasoned tomato sauce topped with creamy melted fresh mozzarella on a firm foundation of freshly baked bread. Other signature pies combine the high quality ingredients of haute Neapolitan cuisine and a coal burning oven for an authentic Italian taste with an American twist.  Although a newcomer to Manhattan, Patrizia's recipes have been proven for generations.  As the pizzaioli master the intricacies of the oven, Patrizia's of Brooklyn might soon become your new favorite pizzeria!

MISCELLANEOUS:

Last game of the regular season

1. Today's softball double-header were the last two games of the regular season.  Since I will be in the Midwest eating pizza the weekend of the playoffs, these were my last games of the seasons. Fortunately, I got to be the runner that scored the walk-off win securing our team as the first place seed!  Unfortunately, it was like 20 degrees out there and the slide into second base to put me in scoring position turf-burned the crap out of my knee.  Some players ice and bandage, I just eat pizza.
Lance, Alyssa, and Xander
2. Alyssa See is also a pizza enthusiast, a fundamentally sound second baseman and had a key two-out bases clearing triple to put us in position to win the game.
3. Xander Wahl compiled five hits on the day and played stellar shortstop all season.  Xander and Alyssa are the best double play combo I have ever seen in co-ed high arc recreational softball!  You can quote me on that.
Three Met fans
4. Lance Kushner and I are Mets fans.  While eating pizza we were mesmerized by the Mets-Cubs game on Patrizia's 60" screen. Once we finished our meal, we went to Lance's apartment and watched the rest of the game on his 60" screen - except his dogs sort of blocked his view.
