Day 19a, 2014: Heartwood (Chelsea, NYC)

DAY 19a: OCTOBER 19th, 2014

LOCATION: Heartwood (184 8th Ave, Chelsea, NYC)

GUEST(S): Ruby Marez, David DeVaughn, Robin Rothman

ORDER: 2 slices of a Three Little Pigs (roasted cherry tomatoes, hand pulled mozzarella, roasted pork, salumeria bielese bacon lardons, smoked ham), 1 slice of a Wild & Sharp (wild mushrooms, sweet garlic, fontina cheese, tarragon, truffle), 1 slice of When Peter Luger Goes Out For Pizza (braised short rib, creamed spinach, horseradish)

REVIEW:
The extravagant side of pizza.  Heartwood takes every component of a pizza to the next level and doesn't look back.  Simple or traditional are not even menu options.  Instead, indulge in lavish ingredients like bacon lardons, chicken chipotle sausage, pickled green apples, cured duck ham and even lobster.  Fusing copious amounts of decadent flavor combinations, Heartwood redefines the word "topping." The emphasis on these toppings almost upstages the hand-crafted wood-fired crust they rest upon.  Pairing these unique opulent creations with a fine wine or fancy cocktail, you might even forget you are even in a pizzeria.    Heartwood is truly in a class of its own.
