Day 15, 2014: Pizza Rock (Las Vegas, NV)

DAY 15: OCTOBER 15th, 2014

LOCATION: Pizza Rock (201 North Third St, Las Vegas, NV)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman

ORDER: 7 slices of Margherita

REVIEW:
Jackpot!  Just off the old strip Pizza Rock is the one place in Vegas you just can't lose.  Co-owner and founder and international Pizza Cup Champion Tony Gemignani teamed up with nightclub experts George Karpaty and Trevor Hewitt to create a pizzeria that rocks in every sense of the word.  From the stones in the ovens to the dynamic sound system to the taste of the pies, you will be rocked! With an assortment of oven types and cooking temperatures, Pizza Rock has every pizza style down to a science. Go with a group so you can sample more than one award-winning style. I opted for the 900° wood-fired Napoletana style Margherita.  All 73 Margheritas prepared daily are to the precise specifications of Tony's triumphant pie from the Naples 2007 World Pizza Cup.  Hand mixed using San Felice flour then proofed in Neapolitan wood boxes, the dough is masterfully sculpted to provide a circular canvas for the San Marzano tomatoes, creamy fior di latte, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil and Italian sea salt.  Yes, even the sea salt is imported! It's as authentic and delicious as any Naples style pizza I have ever had.  Pizza Rock's menu includes much more than pizza, but don't settle for the opening act when the headliner truly rocks!  Even if you don't gamble, you can bet I'll be back.

MISCELLANEOUS:
View from our room at the Hard Rock Hotel
1. Robin Rothman and I spent our last night in Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel.  The view was spectacular and there tons of non-gambling options...which is perfect for us.  Four pools, beer pong, poolside bar, an arcade and awesome music at just the right volume.  We even ended up eating at the Hard Rock Cafe next door.  It's fun to be a tourist in another city when you live in a tourist city.
Pinball Hall of Fame
2. We discovered that a 7 minute ride from our hotel is a Pinball Hall of Fame.  There are more than 250 vintage to brand new pinball games to play at their original cost (most are under $.50 to play).  Needless to say, we spent tons of time (yet not enough time) here.
The Mob Museum/ old courthouse
3. The old Las Vegas courthouse has been converted into a "Mob Museum."  One of the more morbid exhibits is the actual wall rebuilt brick-by-brick where the St. Valentine's Day massacre took place.
