Day 1, 2014: Bella Vita (Theatre District, NYC)

DAY 1: OCTOBER 1st, 2014

LOCATION: Bella Vita (211 W. 43rd St, NYC)

ORDER: 1 slice of Pepperoni

GUEST(S): Scott Benjamin

REVIEW:
Half dine-in, half slice joint serves better than half decent pizza in the heart of Times Square. Less than a block from where the ball drops every year lies a gas-powered brick oven pizzeria called Bella Vita.  Italian for the "good life," dine-in patrons are ushered into the surprisingly spacious half of the dining area dedicated to table service.  The rest of the clientele are meant to takeout their slices or sit "by the counter."  No matter where you sit, expect your slices loaded with creamy fresh mozzarella cheese and a meager amount of tomato sauce.  I recommend adding a meat topping or some grated cheese to provide a savory balance to the slice.  The spicy hand-cut pepperoni provides both the salt and zest that the crisp-yet-chewy crust may be lacking. Overall, a solid slice with high quality ingredients.
