DAY 29: OCTOBER 29th, 2008 -SI Pizza Circuit (2of3) - Lee's Tavern

DAY 29: OCTOBER 29th, 2008

LOCATION: Lee's Tavern (Hancock St. and Garrettson St., Staten Island)

ORDER: 3 slices of cheese

GUEST(S): Charles Gussow, Kelsey Beckner

PIZZA REVIEW: Setting the bar for bar pizza. Lee's Tavern takes "pizza and beer" to a new level. Ok, so the beer is probably the same beer you get at any other bar but Lee's Tavern pizza made the cold weather, the beer, the ball game, the whole pub atmosphere - just a little bit better. I mean there is even a wait for this pub pizza! Sure the pizza was a tad greasy and maybe the sauce did not extend to the edge of the crust but it tasted incredible. The ultra thin crust held firm despite the weight of the buttery cheese and savory tomato sauce. Did I mention how big it was? A large is more than enough for two adults and for under $10, it's a bar-gain (pun intended). A bar price for a way-better-than-bar pizza is what you get when you go to Lee's Tavern.

MISC.:
1. Charles Gussow, Kelsey Beckner and I were here until the final out of the World Series. For those of you living under a rock, the Phillies beat Tampa Bay in 5 games.

2. Lee's Tavern was the second stop on our Staten Island pizza circuit. It is located 100 yards from the Dongan Hills Staten Island railroad station and pretty nearby our first stop, Goodfella's.
