10 Days of Midwest Pizza...

It's official.  Ten of the final 31 Days of Pizza this year will take place in and around the United States' Midwest.  My wife and I will be road-tripping from Indianapolis to Minneapolis in a pizza shaped pattern.  In addition to visiting Wisconsin cheese factories, the birthplaces of many of the most popular pizza franchises, and the namesakes of both St. Louis and Detroit style pizza, our itinerary is wide open. Please recommend pizzerias we should visit, things we shouldn't miss seeing, people that might want to join us, and places for weary pizza-filled travelers to sleep.

Sean goes Plaque to Totonno's

Totonno's in Coney Island
There is a new plaquard in an old pizzeria - the oldest family owned pizzeria in the country. Totonno's opened its doors in 1924 and, aside from some fire-repair hiatus, has been churning out top notch coal-fired pizza ever since. I had the honor of meeting and awarding Louise Ciminieri my highest pizza honor - the Slicey. Totonno's earned the award for Best Overall Experience with a perfect score back in 2010 and I was pleased to deliver it in 30 years or less.

Congratulations and keep up the delicious work!
